Baptism of Infants
It has been the long standing practice
of the Church to seek baptism of babies as soon
as possible. The gift of a child is a gift from
God, and therefore parents desire their child to
share in the life of God, which is given in
Baptism. Baptism is the first introduction to the life of Jesus, each sacrament brings us into a living relationship with Him.
At least every quarter a meeting is held in the
Parish to which parents are invited to attend
(as advertised in the weekly newsletter). At
this meeting parents are reminded of their
responsibility to nurture their child's faith.
We therefore see baptism as a celebration of
making a stronger commitment to our Church
community - for the whole family.
God parents should be carefully chosen and
should be baptised themselves and active members
of the Catholic faith. They have an ongoing role
to play in the growth of faith.
Baptism's are usually celebrated during Mass in
Eastertide or outside Mass at 12:00 Noon. It is
most important that parents attend the
preparation meeting to make arrangements.
Baptism of Older Children
For different reasons a child can miss
out being baptised as an infant, so we invite
parents to bring forward older children for the
Sacrament. To enable a better understanding of
what is happening, the children and parents are
asked to attend a preparation course together.
This invitation is yearly in September.
Baptism of Adults
It is never too late to be baptised -
A.B.C. About Becoming a Catholic is a series of
evenings of preparation and explanation of the
basis of the Catholic Faith. It takes place in a
relaxed and informal setting.
Adults who wish to be baptised are asked to
contact the Parish Priest to make initial
enquires. |
